Scarlett Johansson, American actress (born on the 22nd of November 1985 in New York City New York) has received acclaim for her ability to act across different genres such as historical dramas, thrillers and action films. Johansson was born to an architect as well as producer, was brought up within New York City. Her twin brother Hunter and her were the youngest siblings. As a child, she began acting. At seven she was already auditioning for a number of commercials. After that, she was enrolled in the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and afterwards attended the Professional Children's School in Manhattan for further training in her craft. Her debut came as an actress on film in North (1994) when she was nine. She was just eight when she starred alongside Ethan Hawke on Off-Broadway in Sophistry. Johansson was next seen on screen in Just Cause (1995), prior to her breakthrough by starring in Manny & Lo - a story about two sisters, orphans who are able to escape. In The Horse Whisperer, Johansson played a teenage victim of an horrific crash. The role she played in Ghost World brought her more recognition as the troubled teenager Rebecca.
